2.1 Is America a Racist Country?

Martin Luther King said that he had a dream that someday people would not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.  That means he had a dream that people would be judged by if they were nice or not and not by what the color of their skin was.  When that happened racism would be over.    American whites voted for Barack Obama twice in a row because the color of his skin didn't matter.  Larry Elder talks about this in the 1 minute video below:  In the video Larry mentions blacks reaching the promised land.  When Larry talks about blacks "Reaching the promised land"  he means the United States becoming a land where blacks are accepted as equals.

Many of our schools are teaching that being white means you are privileged and guilty, racist and an oppressor. They teach that America is a racist country.  There is a name for these ideas, Critical Race Theory.  Even employees of the Federal government were taught this during the Obama administration.  In September 2020, then-President Donald Trump signed an executive order banning federal agencies and contractors from conducting training sessions based on critical race theory. Specifically, the order banned “race or sex stereotyping,” “race or sex scapegoating,” and teaching that “an individual’s moral character is necessarily determined by his or her race or sex.” In short, the executive order made sure that all training sessions complied with the basic framework of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 which prohibits racist programs from being paid for by the Federal government.  President Joe Biden reversed Trump's ban and is offering grant money to schools that teach Critical Race Theory.  Senator Tim Scott is a black Republican.  He responded to a speech Biden gave in Congress.   Tim does not believe that America is a racist country.  He doesn't believe that the answer to past racism is racism against whites.  He doesn't believe that only white Americans are privileged.  He believes that both white and black Americans are privileged to live in America.  I've included excerpts of Senator Scott's speech below.

After making his speech Senator Scott was criticized by the left of being an Uncle Tom.  When a person is being accused of being an Uncle Tom that means he's being accused of betraying blacks for personal gain.  People on the political left made this accusation.  Why did they make it?
