On November 7, 2024, Israel shared intelligence with Dutch police and security agencies that an attack was planned the following day on Jewish fans of the Maccabi soccer team. On November 8, 2024 the Israeli Maccabi soccer team played against Ajax Amsterdam the Dutch soccer team. Mobs of masked assailants with Palestinian flags attacked the Israeli fans who came to support their team. Tomer Talias, a Maccabi Tel Aviv fan who came to watch the game told Ynet News about the incident.
"They came to lynch Maccabi Tel Aviv fans. Guys that are 16-17 years old, adults, women. They spat on them, ran over them, humiliated them, pushed them. People hid, and the attackers blew firecrackers and flares at them, and there are guys here with me who got severe injuries. The antisemitism here in Amsterdam is something I have never encountered in my life, it's crazy, everyone here hates us...The police did nothing and didn't protect the fans here. The whole way they managed security here is disgraceful, I can tell you that I will never come back here again in my life."
The New York Times headline was “Violence Tied to Soccer Game Prompts Dozens of Arrests in Amsterdam.” After being called out for the inaccurate and misleading nature of its coverage, the Times changed its headline to “Israeli Soccer Fans Injured in Attacks Linked to Antisemitism in Amsterdam.” That was better, but it still didn’t capture the full horror of the incident, which got so bad that Israel sent rescue planes for Israeli citizens in Amsterdam.
The Associated Press headline was Maccabi Tel Aviv fans clash with reported pro-Palestinian protesters at Ajax Europa League match.
Reading headlines like these you would never guess that Israeli soccer fans were attacked and run over by Muslims. Instead you'd think that some soccer fans got out of control over a soccer game. In fact you're think that the Israeli fans attacked the protesters.
I saw this report about dishonest media reporting on my facebook page on April 28 2025.
